PAIRING BOOK // RECORDS ON THE ROCKS
PHOTOGRAPHY // LAYOUT // TYPOGRAPHY
This was photography project where we were told to make a book that pairs two subjects together in some way. I decided to pair some of the greatest rock records with what you should drink while listening to them.
The goal main design goal was to relate back to vinyl records as strongly as possible. The square design of the book with worn edges and record imprint on each page create the feeling of flipping open a vinyl album.
I staged all the photography in the book to push the flow of the book. All photos have sweeping leading lines that carry your eyes to the drink and then through to the next page to make for a pleasing reading experience.
You can use the arrows to flip through the full book...
PAIRING APP // RECORDS ON THE ROCKS
UI/UX DESIGN // ICON DESIGN // BRANDING
For this rework I decided to take my Records on the Rocks pairing book and make an app based around the same idea of pairing alcoholic drinks with music.
I kept the three main colours and Futura font from the book to design the app. I used music player controls as the navigation features throughout the app to push the theme of music. I made the icons all circles and some with spinning animation to reference back to the book’s theme of vinyl records.
The app icon is supposed to reference two ideas. The more obvious one being two R’s inside of each other. But also hinting at vinyl records through the negative space being the groove and the foot of the inner R being the needle on the record.
To keep the app on brand with the icon I made all the icons feature both colours with all equal weight lines.

This is a live XD prototype to show the functionality of the app.
